The stainless steel support ring is only useful if you want to place CeraFlare, Cerardor, EldoFlare or another object in the middle of the bowl. The support ring ensures that no decorative material (sand/gravel or other objects) can slide from the side into the middle of the bowl.

 For some applications (e.g. water features) a cable feedthrough is required. A cutout is provided on the side for this purpose. The cutout can be easily removed with a screwdriver, for example.
